The Problems With Military Deployments - 1126 Words

Joseph Weikart Professor Hundley English 85, Section 6013 21 October 2015 The Problems With Military Deployments Even today, most American’s are unaware about the problems that military families face. Right now the United States military has a record-breaking number of active-duty parents deployed in various military conflicts all across the world. The long conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan has majorly affected many families. New research is showing the affects the deployments are having on military families, especially how the children are being affected. Many of the children are having problems with their education and also may have sociological problems. This is not a new problem, but only in the last couple of decades has the†¦show more content†¦Lt. Taijeron’s story is one that is mirrored by many other service-members. Many deployed parents also feel guilt when they miss significant events that occur in their children’s lives. Many resources suggest that loved ones should send many pictures or videos of the children, so that the service-member does not feel t otally excluded in their children’s life. Even though the Department Of Defense and many private organizations have many resources and also have started many support programs to help military families, many families still struggle to cope with the separations during long deployments. One effect that some military children face is the inability to focus on their education while they are worried about their deployed or absent parent or other family member. In Lyle Amaani’s article, â€Å"Much- Traveled Military Children Enjoy Opportunities, Face Challenges†, Navy Admiral Harry B. Harris Jr states, â€Å"It’s no surprise that studies have shown that children of military parents are often more vulnerable to fear and anxiety, and that those stressors manifest themselves behaviorally and academically†. Worrying about their parent on deployment can affect military children’s grades and cause them to not perform as well as their classmates in school. In a report

Managing People in an Organisation-

Questions: 1.Challenges to anticipate in creating a shared vision for this changed Organization? 2.Internal and External Environmental Factors to consider in carving out a Multicultural Leadership path that will support success of the Organization. 3.How to work differently to Cultivate Organizational support within the different business units that is necessary to ensure the success of the Multicultural leadership effort. Answers: One challenge that the manager will face is integrating the varying needs of business units in different countries to a shared vision. The units exist in different countries with varying business environment and cultures that may be challenging to integrate into one since it is difficult to capture the collective mind and will. Further, Senge (1990, p. 10) adds that the environment may offer different rapid changes that may threaten to craft the vision to pull business needs towards the required organizational vision. The strategy may cause different creative organizational tensions that may require different levels of energy to harness them which may take longer or require more resources to achieve the intended outcome. Management will be forced to develop ways of meeting the varying needs of the business units and align them to the required goals. 2.Internal environment factors are systems, people, structures and conditions inside an organization that are controlled by the company. These factors are associated with the organizational culture and management style that may influence the leadership path to be taken by the organization to achieve the intended outcome. On the other hand, external environmental factors occur outside the organization may cause change since they are not under leadership control (Shieh Wang 2010, p. 299). These include economic forces, competition, customers, political and social conditions. These factors affect growth and long-term sustainability thus the need to monitor them and develop strategies to adapt to the external environment through a reactive approach. Leaders need to scan the environment through monitoring the above factors and develop strategies to accommodate opportunities and resolve threats through adjusting the system to adapt. SWOT and PESTEL analysis are the two tools used to appra ise the organization and change for the environment. 3.Cultivating organizational support requires working with the company to develop new abilities through developing strategic thinking in leaders. Learning systems are characterized by system thinking, mental models, shared visions, team learning, and personal mastery (Senge, et al. 1999, p. 11). Informed learning organization leaders will then work effortlessly to align the organizations culture to its teams. This new culture will form the basis organizational change to adapt to the environment. Strategic leaders work on business changes that exist in the environment through developing their internal abilities to strategic thinking to meet the changing needs. This strategy will help people work together to achieve the business goal despite coming from different units and backgrounds. Further, flattening the leadership structure to create a balance between different units will lead to reduced elitism and focus on business processes(Erbe, 2014). Salaries and responsibilities need to be balanced across the board to create a business environment that meets the needs of the organization rather than the individual. Leaders need to be trained on how to align human resources towards the business strategy at all times to develop business competitiveness. Lastly, motivation can be used to achieve support from different entities within the organization. Since leadership focusses on achieving desired outcomes through providing direction, motivation can be used to elicit certain behaviors in the organization that lead to achieving your multicultural leadership effort. Organizations should strive to meet employee needs for them to fulfill their requirements in the social contract that they have with the business (D'Souza Gurin 2016, p. 8). Different strategies like use of stimulus, employee training, work-life balance and organizational support can be used to create the desired outcomes. References D'Souza, J. Gurin, M., 2016. The 25 Best Engineering Schools in the US (and How to Get In)

The 25 Best Engineering Schools in the US (and How to Get In) SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips Do you dream of building driverless cars or a space elevator? You should check out the best engineering schools in the US! But with so many different engineering schools out there and intense competition for the top programs, how can you figure out where should you apply? To help you decide, we’ve compiled a list of the best engineering schools in the US. We’ll explain a little bit about each school on the list as well as provide rankings within specific subfields of engineering. What Is an Engineering School? Engineering schools are colleges with a majority of majors and courses in applied sciences and mathematics. Rather than providing students with a broad liberal arts experience (of which science and math are just a small part), engineering programs center around taking the scientific and mathematical knowledge we have and applying it to real-world problems. There’s also a difference between schools of engineering (which exclusively focus on engineering fields like mechanical and computer engineering) and larger universities that have strong engineering programs within them (like Cornell University’s College of Engineering). We’ve considered both types of schools in our rankings. How We Ranked the Best Engineering Schools In deciding which schools to include in our rankings, we focused only on the quality of undergraduate engineering programs. We did this by aggregating and comparing rankings from several different sources, including the US News World Reports (weighted 2x the others because of their dominance), Niche (a student satisfaction-heavy ranking), and College Factual. These rankings take into account factors like students’ salaries (both immediately after graduating and projected gains in the future), how popular that degree is at that school, student satisfaction, and how peers in the field view the program (mainly professors from other schools). The Top 25 Engineering Schools in the US And now (drumroll please), our list of the best engineering schools in the US. Note: All acceptance rates listed are for the school as a whole and are meant to give you a general idea of the schools’ selectivity. For more details on admissions for a specific program, you should contact the school directly. Rank School Name (Nickname) Location Admissions Rate 1 Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Cambridge, MA 7% 2 Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) Atlanta, GA 23% 3 California Institute of Technology (Caltech) Pasadena, CA 8% 4 Franklin W. Olin College of Engineering (Olin) Needham, MA 13% 5 University of Michigan- Ann Arbor (UMich) Ann Arbor, MI 27% 6 Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology Terre Haute, IN 61% 7 Cornell University Ithaca, NY 13% 8 University of California- Berkeley (UC Berkeley) Berkeley, CA 17% 9 Stanford University Stanford, CA 5% 10 Harvey Mudd College Claremont, CA 15% 11 Carnegie Mellon University Pittsburgh, PA 22% 12 University of Illinois- Urbana-Champaign Champaign, IL 62% 13 Purdue UniversityWest Lafayette West Lafayette, IN 57% 14 Princeton University Princeton, NJ 6% 15 Harvard University Cambridge, MA 5% 16 US Naval Academy Annapolis, MD 8% 17 Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) Blacksburg, VA 70% 18 The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art (Cooper Union) New York, NY 13% 19 Texas AM University- College Station College Station, Texas 70% 20 Johns Hopkins University Baltimore, MD 12% 21 Northwestern University Evanston, IL 9% 22 Columbia University New York, NY 6% 23 Rice University Houston, TX 16% 24 University of TexasAustin Austin, TX 36% 25 California Polytechnic State InstituteSan Luis Obispo (Cal Poly) San Luis Obispo, CA 34% Best Specialized Engineering Programs While all of the schools on our list are highly ranked overall, certain specialties are stronger at certain schools. We’ve chosen the gold, silver, and bronze medalists for five different subfields: Aerospace engineering Chemical engineering Civil engineering Computer engineering Mechanical engineering The rankings here are based on specialty rankings from US News World Report and College Factual, again for undergraduate programs only (not including the quality of masters or doctorate programs at the school). You’ll notice some overlap over different fields (for instance, MIT, Georgia Tech, and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology rank for most of them), but there are still clear differences in which schools are best for which specialty. Best Aerospace Engineering Schools in the US Aerospace engineering is the field you go into if you’re interested in studying flight of any kind (whether that’s aircraft or spacecraft). The best aerospace engineering programs can be found in the following four schools: Gold medal: MIT and Georgia Tech (tie) Silver medal: UMich Bronze medal: Cal Poly Best Chemical Engineering Schools in the US Chemical engineering is at the intersection of chemistry, biology, math, and even some physics. The following three programs all do an outstanding job at turning out graduates skilled in chemical engineering. Gold medal: MIT Silver medal: Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology Bronze medal: Georgia Tech Best Civil Engineering Schools in the US Students in civil engineering programs learn about designing, building, and maintaining physical structures like bridges, buildings, and roads. The following three schools have leading programs in civil engineering for undergraduates. Gold medal: Georgia Tech Silver medal: Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology Bronze medal: MIT Best Computer Engineering Schools in the US Computer engineering programs focus on teaching students computer science and electrical engineering. The three schools we’ve listed below have the best undergraduate computer engineering programs in the US (if you're looking for top information technology programs, check out this article instead). Best Mechanical Engineering Schools in the US Mechanical engineering programs teach students the theory and practicalities behind machine design, construction, and use. Of all the top engineering schools, the following four are known for their strong mechanical engineering programs. Gold medal: MIT Silver medal: Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and Georgia Tech (tie) Bronze medal: Caltech 3 Top Tips for Applying to Engineering Schools Now that you know what the best engineering schools in the US are, the next step is to make sure your high school transcript and application show that you’re a strong engineering candidate. We’ll go over three useful tips for planning your standardized testing, coursework, and extracurriculars to have the best chance of getting into top engineering schools. #1: Ace SAT/ACT Math If you want to get into a top engineering school, you need to get a perfect or near-perfect score on SAT or ACT Math. Getting an 800 or a 36 is best, especially for schools like MIT where only 25% of students got below a 780 or a 34 on the SAT or ACT Math sections. For engineering schools in general, it’s way better to get 800 on SAT Math and 550 on Evidence-Based Reading and Writing (for a total SAT score of 1350) than it would be to get a 700 on Math and 700 on EBRW (total of 1400). Extremely high math scores (and mediocre reading/writing scores) are always, always preferred over medium-high math scores and medium-high reading/writing scores. At a minimum, you’ll need to get at least a 700 on SAT Math or a 30 on ACT Math to have a chance of getting into a good engineering school. If you take any SAT Subject Tests, it’s important to take and get a perfect 800 on a SAT Math Subject Test (preferably Math 2) to show you’re strong in Math beyond what’s covered on the SAT or ACT. Getting a perfect or high score on SAT II Physics or any other science Subject Test as well isn’t required, but it also will help your application. #2: Take Lots of Science and Math If you want to get into top engineering schools, it's less important to be well rounded than to show that you have a solid foundation in math. Showing that you’re strong in science, too, is a nice bonus, particularly if your strength is in a field closely related to the type of engineering you’re interested in (e.g. bio or chem for chemical engineering). Demonstrate your strengths to colleges by taking (and excelling) in advanced math and science classes. This means taking honors-level, AP, or IB courses and putting as much effort as you can into getting top grades in them, even if it means you end up with relatively lower grades in other subjects. #3: Excel in Math and Science Extracurriculars As PrepScholar co-founder Allen Cheng discusses in his guide to getting into Harvard and the Ivy League, the key to getting accepted to the most selective institutions is to build up a â€Å"spike† in a certain area. For engineering schools, this area is (you guessed it) math and/or science. Taking part and scoring highly on Math or Science Olympiads and participating in competitions like Intel or Siemens Westinghouse are crucial to building your engineering extracurricular creds. PrepScholar co-founder Fred Zhang particularly recommends going to the RSI science and math camp and scoring highly on the AIME to boost your chances of acceptance to top engineering schools in the US. Analysis and Evaluation of Tridents Success Essay

Analysis and Evaluation of Tridents Success - Essay Example Their tag line â€Å"completing the package† also tells their aim and main purpose which is to provide marketing to a company in a unique way. Tridents have captured their market in exotic way which has also helped them to expand their value and placement in market. Trident as a company has main focus on the packaging and graphic management of the consumers brand. It has kept their market very focused and simple. In other words it deals and targets all the companies and their products which need packaging. The main reason for their success is also because of the unique nature of their company, and the service which they provide. There are many other companies which might offer such packaging or graphic management but not under one roof with such high standards. Secondly the level of quality they have maintained in their work is the main reason for their success and well-known name in market. So the market of Trident Company is very vast as they target and invites all the compa nies for designing of their graphic management and products for their good packaging. TRIDENTS HISTORY Trident was established in 1993 by Dave Keel and Bob Caroll. They both were working in company Harlans, in directors bored. Harlans is a large successful printing house company in Hull. Harlans was a successful company which was able to offer an extensive scope of printing capacity to its customers. But when its success started to fade due to the down fall of Harlans culture, the two current owners of Trident - Dave and Bob decided to initiate and start their own new business. As they were aware of business before because of the experience and vision in Harlans Company, they kept in mind to avoid and overcome all the issues which they have faced or have seen in Harlans. The foundation of Trident consisted of just 5 staff members in 1993 and their main focus was to offer and manage consistency in design, colors and graphics for all the global brands. The business whose bricks were b uilt on trust in just one room; their staff was able to come and leave whenever they wanted to but the only agenda they had was to complete their given work on the very day. In start they had no structure but just few staff members who worked over this motive that don’t put down any of the colleague or customer; always do something to help them and do something to impress them. And till today this is tridents slogan to swear on. After eleven months of their hard work and consistency, Trident was bought by Sonoco. Sonoco is global packaging organization with over 300 manufacturing locations in almost 30 countries. (Sonoco, 2011) Sonoco provided help to Trident to grow and develop. With increasing employee numbers of company, the structure gradually kept changing. Manager and Supervisor titles were introduced and appointed to each team which managed different customers’ brands. As Trident evolved in both structure and technology; they were able to expand and become a glo bal company. (Trident, 2011) It now employs more than 250 people in their Hull site branch. Now Trident has opened five sites. Their second branch is in UK. And two branches in Asia and one in USA. Their customers’ portfolio incorporates some of the well-known brands like P&G, Body Shop, SC Johnson, Reckitt Benckiser and Phillips, etc. SWOT ANALYSIS All the factors in business which influence the actions and operation of the company and which are not under the control of the company are known as

Public relation strategy of AUstralia Federal Election Essay

Public relation strategy of AUstralia Federal Election - Essay Example has made use of considerable public relations tools, including new media forums such as Twitter and Facebook, offering both candidates more exposure in a large variety of different voter markets. This paper describes the key messages from both candidates, from Gillard’s focus on improving progressivism and touting feminist values as well as Abbott’s more conservative policies on health care, environmentalism, and immigration. Both Gillard and Abbott have their own, unique perspectives on how best to move Australia forward should they be elected the new Prime Minister. Julia Gillard is often portrayed by Australian society and multiple media outlets as being far too dedicated to the interests of the Labor party, proposing upcoming policies centred around monetary needs over that of the tangible needs of the Australian people. This is interesting criticism considering the socialistic values traditionally found in those characterized as centre-left. Gillard’s top priorities as Prime Minister include first economic growth, the improvement of education, and building national pride and confidence in the 21st century (Kearney, 2010). In fact, said Gillard in a recent interview, â€Å"Keeping the economy strong so that people can get the benefits of work† was her main goal (Kearney, 2010, p.1). Gillard has also been criticized significantly for her lack of religious conviction, this being a self-proclaimed atheist, which has created concern with the country’s Church leaders and faithful citizens with strong religious principles. Despite this criticism for her values related to religion, Gillard attempts to reinforce her stern respect for these institutions when stating, â€Å"My history has been to be a big supporter. In terms of the work that the Catholic church does, that other churches†¦do in our society, I am a big respecter† (theage.com.au, 2010, p.2). This is a public relations effort to reinforce her values about the value of diversity and religious faith

Health care marketing in practice Research Paper

Health care marketing in practice - Research Paper Example Many of the US citizens are without health insurance and when they get ill either they do not find the best treatment or they cannot afford the cost. Moreover, the medical facility and cost vary from place to place. The present study deals in current strategic positioning of Abbott Northwest Hospital and their marketing plans. Abbott Northwestern Hospital was established in the year 1882 as Northwestern Hospital for Women and Children. It is one of the largest hospitals in the twin cities. It is recognized both nationally and locally for its exceptional service and expertise. Every year the hospital provides services to about more than 200,000 patients along with their families across the twin city and Upper Midwest. It serves in the women and child care segment (Hospital overview, n.d.). The website of the hospital provides all necessary information for the patients. The â€Å"visiting† (Visiting us, n.d.) information provides the patients and their families with the address, direction, visiting hours, transportation and campus view of the hospital. The declaration of independence

The declaration of independence The Declaration of Independence Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence in 1776.   Its purpose was to declare the 13 colonies in America free and independent from Great Britain, get other colonists on board, and to encourage other nations to help them.   Jefferson not only wrote how they were splitting from Britain, but he also gave thorough reasoning as to why they should be allowed to do so.   In order to do that he used deductive logic in this document.   In addition, many people wonder if the declaration had been developed in a different format, such as a series or syllogistic arguments, how persuasive it would be.   From a literary perspective, it would not have been as persuasive as the original document.   Another reason why the declaration is so persuasive is that Jefferson uses friendly, brotherly language to show his unity to them. The reason why the Declaration of Independence is so persuasive is that Jefferson uses deductive arguments, which includes examples of Britains wrong doings, which gives the person reading the document a chance to see exactly why they are breaking from Great Britain.   One of the strongest deductive arguments in the declaration is, â€Å"That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among men†.   This means that any legitimate government is created to protect peoples rights such as, â€Å"Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness†.   Throughout the declaration Jefferson shows how Great Britain is not protecting their rights, but interfering with them.   For example, he states how the king keeps sending over soldiers and expects the people to house and feed them.   How would you feel if the government just placed a stranger in your home and told you he could eat your hard-earned food?   These soldiers were also allowed to disobey the laws in the c olonies and not be punished for them.   This is not what you call protecting peoples rights; it is more like invading them.   Another very strong deductive argument in this document is, â€Å"deriving their just power from the consent of the governed†.   This means any power or authority that a government has is given to them by the consent of the people, but this right like many others was abused too.   For instants, Jefferson wrote that they have â€Å"Petitioned for redress† repeatedly, meaning they sent many petitions to the king about many unfair problems in the colonies, wanting to come to some type of agreement.   Nevertheless, the king does not answer them but continues to hurt them.   This shows that the king did not care about the peoples consent; therefore, he is not implicating a just government and they have the right to break free from Great Britain. If the Declaration were developed in a series of syllogistic arguments, it would not be very persuasive on stating why they should split from Britain.   For example, whether the syllogisms were Aristotles or Toulmins form it would not be a very formal format for a government document.   If this document were in syllogisms, there would be many repeated major premises or warrants, which would cause no concision and wordiness.   Syllogisms would be of better use if you were outlining or organizing the declaration into your own understanding. The main thing besides logic that helped the persuade the colonist they had the right to break from Great Britain, was the language in which Jefferson wrote the declaration.   He used words such as brethren, common kindred, and fellow citizen, which implied that they were all in this together.   He even shows them how the colonies have tried their best to avoid violent conflict with Great Britain but the king would not compromise.   For instants, they had sent many petitions to Britain to come to some type of agreement, but the king continued to hurt the colonies.   Jefferson was arguing that they have tried to work with Great Britain but they continue to send mercenaries to kill people, burn down towns, ravage ships, and capture citizens and make them do very immoral things to their own people.   No nation should sit back and let these horrible things happen to them, so by stating these different scenarios it encourages the fellow colonists that it is time to fight for the ir rights. In conclusion, the declaration of independence is a document that jump-started the United States.   It explains why they had to the right to separate from Great Britain, and many unjust actions they inflicted upon the colonies.   The declaration is a very thorough complex document that would not worked in any other format.   If Jefferson would have wrote this document in a different way would we be in the place we are today?

Language Issues and Ideologies Essays

Language Issues and Ideologies Essays Language Issues and Ideologies Essay Language Issues and Ideologies Essay ?Language ideology sometimes simply referred simply as linguistic ideology is a conception majorly applied in the field of cross-cultural studies, sociolinguistics and anthropology to typify any form of feelings. These feelings concerns language as applied under social phenomenon. When these language ideologies are explored and recognised, they expose various intersections between speaker’s beliefs on language and cultural and social systems under which these speakers are accustomed to. This is by for instance, showing how such beliefs are rooted and informed in these systems. By so doing, language or linguistic ideologies links both the explicit and the implicit assumptions of individuals regarding the general language or a particular language to their political, economic interest as well as the social experience. To this end, this essay endeavours to explore some of the issues of language in the linguistic literature such as the intersection between language and society, edu cation, politics and socio-economic class as discussed below. Intersection between language and politics Language politics has been defined by Linguistic Society of America (2007) as the way in which linguistic and language differences between different individuals is dealt within a political context. The manifestation of this can be in the form of treatment of language under official capacities and recognition by the government. Examples of this might include language recognition as the official language that make it a mandatory for all government official documents to be published in the generally accepted official language in a nation or region. These might include among other things, government gazette notices, as well as evidence law courts (Lado, 2009). In nations where the official language is more than one such as Belgium, political implications that give advantage to one particular group of speaker often takes place. Additionally, nations having one pa

Reflection paper - Essay Example oduction business that produces and sells quality food production in order to feed the urban population that suffers from lack of proper food for good nourishment (Allen & Charles p124). Food insecurity is a major problem in the world today; good food is a health issue that is becoming a great concern for many health professionals such as nutritionists and dieticians. Good food translates to good health and good health is the essence of healthy and productive communities. Allen focussed his energy to ensure that the unhealthy processed food that makes a large proportion of urban food consumption is a health problem of the past. Healthy food has become an upper-class experience since the prices of such food have soared (Allen & Charles p152). When considering healthy food for a nation, prices should be part of the subject as there are members of the society or nation that have low income and might not afford such food. It is, therefore, necessary to adopt affordable and creative good food production techniques to ensure that food prices are affordable for everyone; everyone can access good food for revolution! Statements like ‘You couldn’t place people in a middle of a blighted neighbourhood and expect them to thrive’ is s key sentiment of this inspirational book by Allen. Society is comprised of different people and whereas some may have the best if it, it is crucial to observe the welfare of the remaining members of the very society, this is to say that the welfare of everyone in the society if vital and if some other people’s welfare is compromised for the selected few, the ‘selected few’ are likely to suffer too (Allen & Charles p173). One cannot make an illogical assumption of placing people in a bias or unfair conditions within the society and expect them to thrive be healthy and thrive. With this respect, Allen developed production techniques that would ensure that everyone thrives in the urban society. He identified the challenges that face

Will new background checks on gun purchases assist with decreasing gun Research Paper

Will new background checks on gun purchases assist with decreasing gun violence - Research Paper Example This gives rise to organized gangs and illegal trades, which heighten conflicts, thus necessitate the use of the guns in harming others (Kemshall 12). It is therefore with the knowledge that the American streets have more informal guns than the formally accounted guns thus explaining the high crime rates that the government formulated new background check on gun purchases. This policy seeks to review the current laws governing the purchase and ownership of guns thus improving more accountability. The efficacy of such a policy depends on its implementation to regulate the rising crime rates in the countries major cities. The crimes in the cities have an effective pattern that thrives on the formation of organized gangs. Such gangs operate on illegal businesses such as the trade of drugs; drug peddling is the greatest cause of street violence in the country. The illegal trade is worth billions of dollars an amount that requires security to manage. With weaker guns management policies, drug peddlers gain access to guns with which they secure their trades. The heightened rate of conflicts among such guns reciprocates in the use of the very guns in causing harms to other opposing gang members and other innocent citizens. Siegel (19) explains that another group of potential source of gun violence is robbery. Robbery and violent attacks is more prevalent in the American streets all of which are executed by the use of guns. Robbers need force to scare their victims before stealing from them, the most perfect source of scare to most of the people are guns, this therefore necessitate the frequency with which robbers use guns and violence in their robberies. Additionally, guns aid the robbers thwart resistance from their victims. The other type of gun use arises from the unregulated licensing of gun users, in a country with more people officially owning guns, every frustration and conflict attracts the use of guns thus causing more casualties from very light feuds. It is with this understanding that the government formulated the new background check on the purchase of guns in a bid to regulate the private ownership of guns. This in a way seeks to curb the rising crime rates. This new policy is an improvement to the Brady Handgun Violence prevention Act of 1993which required the federal firearms licensees to analyze every prospective firearms buyer and determine their suitability to purchase the arms. This new policy makes this analysis more stringent by dictating that just a single state organ have the ability to dispense guns to the public. With a single dispenser, it becomes to investigate every illegal gun in the street and determine its origin. Furthermore, such a single outsourcer provides effective documentation of the guns and their buyers to ease federal investigations in case of a crime. The legislation further dictate that the gun dispenser share its database with the federal bureau of investigation and any other state investigation body t o fast track investigation processes of any case involving the use of illegal guns (Kemshall 41). This law further requires that the licensing body investigate the mental state of the gun buyers. In doing this, the federal body determines the suitability of the gun buyer to use the firearm responsively without causing intentional arm to the society. The gun purchase further requires the establishment of the need for the gun, the government laws permit top government officials to own guns. Such officials include government secretaries, judges, magistrates, attorneys and other top ranking civil servants. These people attract public attention towards themselves and they conflict with a number of people in the dispensation of their

Pax Romana Essay Example for Free

Pax Romana Essay The lands arounf the Mediterranean Sea and most of the land in the Northwest Europe consists the Roman Empire. The life of Romans was very comfortable. There was indeed a beautiful way of living life. They have water and sewage system which enables them to have clean water. They have theaters and they also have public baths. The people who are wealthy lives in villas or mansions or big houses and they can afford to have a central heating system in their house. Roman Empires greatest part was the Pax Romana which is also called as Pax Augustea. It happened around 27 B. C. after the several Republican Civil Wars and it ended in 180 A. D. In english, Pax Romana means Roman Peace wherein it was a period in the Roman Empire where it refers to the empire in its height of success. Aside from reaching the height of success and glory, the Pax Romana Era which is also called as Pax Augustea was also a time of civil order in the empire. Although there are still foreign wars and rebellions are still on going, the interior or the main empire was free from being invaded. This era was a time of peace and order in the empire. The Roman Legal System was used to attain peace and order in the provinces. At the same time, arts and architecture flourished althroughout the land and there was indeed a stable and well economy. This was the time that Greek and Roman culture was known in the whole empire thus, the flourishing of several aspects of the Roman culture was developed and was known by every people. There were several developments during this Era. Rome turned in an empire and an emperor rules over the whole land. The emperor hired full time workers who will carry out his policies and at this time, government in the province was improved because of the legal system. They follow the same law which made the whole empire organized and this kind of law is what was used by wertern societies in present. The concept of Pax Romana is far different from the peace we have in our contemporary society. The contemporary Society or the Modern Society viewed peace perhaps as a period of rest and absence of conflicts or problems in life. At the same time, the modern world looks at peace as a sign of freedom and escape from worldly things and ideas while Pax Romana was a time of success, absence of war in the main empire and developments. The use of peace in Pax Romana is quite misleading because it did not really mean peace but rather development. Pax Romana was characterized by great Romanization and development of the empire and not by the absence of war and silence. In the contemporary society, peace would mean of relaxation and absence of conflicts.

On Maybank2u.com, users can transfer funds between own Maybank accounts, e.g. from savings account to current account, to other Maybank accounts, to other local banks or financial institutions and transfer funds overseas. Transfer between own Maybank accounts M2U users can transfer funds between own Maybank accounts. To transfer funds between own Maybank accounts: Users must be a registered M2U user. Transfer.jpg Figure 1.1: Own account transfer Transfer to third partys Maybank account To transfer funds from own account to third partys Maybank account, M2U users can choose to transfer funds immediately or at a selected future date, just like how transferring between own accounts does. However, there is a limit for daily transfer which is of maximum RM5000 per day. This service is free of charge. Steps to carry this transfer are almost the same with that of transfer between own Maybank accounts. The differences between these two are users have to select 3rd party account transfer instead of own account transfer. There are also some functions available in this transfer. The first function is 3rd Party Account Maintenance. This function allows users to save account details of someone whom users transfer funds frequently, so that users do not need to key in account number every time when they want to transfer funds. For applicants who wish to have a supplementary cardholder, they can download supplementary form online too. After all these are done, they can hand up the application form attach with all required documents to one of the branches to apply for credit card. dl application form.jpg Figure 1.6: Download credit card application form IMPROVEMENT There are total 8 methods available in Maybank to transfer fund which are Maybank Money Express, Foreign Telegraphic Transfer, 3rd party own account transfer, GIRO Interbank Transfer, China Remittance Service, MEPS Interbank Funds Transfer, Foreign Worker Telegraphic Transfer and MoneyGram Money Transfer. However, there are only three methods available on Maybank2u.com. In order to increase customers option in transferring funds, Maybank should include a few more methods on Maybank2u.com. In other words, it should make any of the five methods available to use online. For example, Maybank Money Express is one of the methods that allows overseas recipients to receive money instantly. By providing reference number given by the sender, recipients can receive the money immediately without having to wait. If this function is available online, users (sender) do not have to travel to branch physically to perform this transaction and recipients can still receive money at once. By having this, users can transfer funds in a more efficient manner. This directly increases customers satisfaction and also the banks reputation and it may attract more customers since it provides the most convenient way for customers to transfer funds overseas. Besides, M2U should increase daily transfer limit for transfer fund to 3rd party account. The default daily transfer limit is RM5000. If users want to transfer more than RM5000, they have to wait until next working day or proceed to ATM to conduct the transaction. This causes inconvenience to users who wish to transfer funds in a larger amount without having travel to branch physically. So, M2U should increase its daily transfer limit so that users can transfer more money online. NEW FUNCTIONS In order to response more promptly to customers request, M2U should provide a function which allows customers to have direct conversations with customer service representatives online when they face problem in using functions on M2U. This is also known as chat box. Many online shopping websites adopt this function so that they can react faster to customers question and need. Conventionally, when users face problems, they either give a call to customer service department or send e-mail and wait for their reply. These take time and some customers may feel impatient while waiting for their reply. Businesses should always place their customers as their top priority and they should fulfill customers need as much as possible and as fast as possible. So, if M2U develop this function, it can response more quickly to customers need and this indirectly increase customers satisfaction and they can retain customers loyalty. For users who wish to apply Maybank credit card online, M2U again causes another inconvenience as there is no function that allows customers to apply credit card online. All it has are only detailed information about credit cards and users can download application form if they want to apply credit cards. So, M2U should insert this function and it can further develop another function for applicants to upload supporting documents. By having this, supporting documents such as NRIC, latest BE form with official tax receipt, latest 2 months salary slips, latest 3 months savings account activity/current account statements, etc can be uploaded and submitted online by the applicants together with the application of credit card. This function really bring great convenience for people who are busy and always have no free time to travel to branch physically.

In Jane Eyre Charlotte Bronte created a novel of social protest. :: Free Essay Writer

In Jane Eyre Charlotte Bronte created a novel of social protest. Discuss why and how she did this. Step one -------- Social protest is †¦ Mainly Charlotte Bronte was protesting against the position of middle class women, social inequality between the rich and the poor and marrying above or below your status. These issues were very important in the Victorian times. Step Two -------- Charlotte Bronte was very critical of the Victorian society. To her every thing was not right (fair). The book ‘Jane Eyre’ is based on a true-life story. It is like a reflection of Charlotte Bronte’s life and the way she was treated. In the book, Jane Eyre is treated very badly because she is an orphan which means she has no money or savings. Jane Eyre lives with her aunt but because Jane Eyre is poor she is treated differently from her cousins. Her aunt feels that she or her children, who are wealthy, can’t be around Jane Eyre because she is a poor child. This is like the life Charlotte Bronte was living. Charlotte Bronte was born 1816 on April the 21st in Thornton, Yorkshire, England. Her father was Patrick Bronte (1777-1861), an Anglican clergyman. Irish-born, he had changed his name from the more commonplace Brunty. Charlotte Bronte’s mother was Maria Branwell Bronte; altogether she had six children including charlotte. Mrs. Bronte was awarded a rectorship in Yorkshire 1820. Soon after, Mrs. Bronte and the two eldest children (Maria and Elizabeth) died, leaving the father to care for the remaining three girls, Charlotte, Emily, and Anne. Also a boy, Patrick Branwell. An aunt, Elizabeth Branwell, aided their upbringing. She left her native Cornwall and took up residence with the family at Haworth. In 1824 Charlotte and Emily, together with their elder sisters attended Clergy Daughters' School at Cowan Bridge, near Kirkby Lonsdale, Lancashire. The fees were low, the food unattractive, and the discipline harsh. They did not like it one bit. Charlotte always complained and made a fuss. Charlotte and Emily returned home in June 1825, and for more than five years the Bronte children learned and played there, writing and telling romantic tales for one another and inventing imaginative games played out at home or on the desolate moors. In 1831 Charlotte was sent to Miss Wooler's school at Roe Head, near Huddersfield, where she stayed a year and made some lasting friendships. In 1839 Charlotte declined a proposal from the Rev. Henry Nussey, her friend's brother, and some months later one from another young clergyman. At the same time Charlotte's ambition to make the practical best of her talents and the need to pay Branwell's debts urged her to spend some months as governess with the Whites at Upper wood House,

High School Student And Adulthood Essay

â€Å"The power which resides in him is new in nature, and none but he knows what that is which he can do, nor does he know until he has tried.† Understanding Defines Change Psychologists Scott Scheer, Stephen Gavazzi, and David Blumenkrantz undertook a comprehensive review and analysis of the psychoanalytic literature that discussed the rites of passage in adolescence; from the reading, they derived two truths concerning an adolescent’s rite of passages. Primarily, as Scheer, Gavazzi, and Blumenkrantz state, â€Å"Not all transitional events necessarily indicate the occurrence of life transitions† (1); however, â€Å"It is believed that both cognitive interpretation and integration are required before the event genuinely becomes a significant transition or rite of passage† (1). Essentially, to label a singular event as one that ignited a life transition, one must understand the resulting effects of the event. Additionally, according to Scheer, Gavazzi, and Blumenkrantz, the event that marks the end of the transitional period between adolescence and adulthood defines the rite. Principally, a singular event cannot accelerate one’s progression into adulthood without one realizing the effects or changes that the event caused. In â€Å"Self-Reliance† by Ralph Waldo Emerson, Emerson described the idealistic depiction of the Romantic hero’s rite of passage. Emerson states that â€Å"The power which resides in him is new in nature† (1), and he believes that a person should seek the meaning of that power for himself. Emerson’s statement that one doesn’t know the power that they have until one finds it (1) falls directly in line with Scheer, Gavazzi, and Blumenkrantz’s interpretation of one’s rite of passage. Scheer, Gavazzi, and Blumenkrantz postulate that one cannot arrive at adulthood without first understanding a transitional event. Similarly, Emerson reveals, in the quote at the top of the page, that one does not know his unique power until he has tried to find it himself. Likewise, if one didn’t find their unique power, based on the definition given by Emerson, one hasn’t successfully arrived at that â€Å"Time in a man’s education† (1), and, thus, has not successfully completed a rite of passage. Therefore, Emerson views rites of passage as events that are intrinsically bound to understanding, and without cognitive interpretation, an event cannot allow one to find one’s unique power, disqualifying it as a rite of passage. The idea that rites of passages are dependent upon cognitive understanding holds true throughout a number of literary texts. For instance, in Walden by Henry David Thoreau, Thoreau details the rite of passage of a king’s son. As Thoreau states, â€Å"One of his father’s ministers having discovered him, revealed to him that he was, and the misconception of his character was removed, and he knew himself to be a prince† (72). Like Scheer, Gavazzi, and Blumenkrantz’s postulated, the son’s discovery alone did not result in the personality transition from that of a forester’s child to a prince. Instead, the son had to realize that he was, in fact, a prince before the transition could completely take effect. Thus, for one to totally embark and complete a rite of passage or a life transition, one must understand the effects of a singular event. This research attempts to investigate the importance of technical & vocational institution. This research is also carried out to find out the various methods objective of research. What is the expectation to fulfil the requirement of being indusrtialized nation?. Well, having the existence of technical & vocational institution are mainly to produce hands on skills on students as well as to develop them to become a part of industrialized nation. In developing our country , technical & vocational school has come to existence to give students opportunity to choose skills that can be learned. This research is carried out to find out the advantages of having technical & vocational institution in Malaysia. Besides that, this research to investigate the effectiveness of having this kind of school in our country and ways to improve vocational & technical education system. 1. 1 BACKGROUND OF THE RESEARCH This research is carried out to provide awareness of the existence of technical and vocational institution as well as to introduce the importances of this institution. Nowadays, we are facing problem that this kind of institution is out of date and is lacking systematically and also having doubts whether it is meeting the current industrial needs in the country. Therefore, this research is carried out to introduce and emphasized on the importance of this institution. The background of this research is based on its development. The formal technical and vocational education system under the Ministry of Education starts at the upper secondary level, where there are 70 secondary vocational schools with an enrolment of 33,751 students and nine secondary technical schools having a total 5,339 students. The secondary vocational schools offer a course structure that covers the same core subjects as in other upper secondary academic schools. In addition to these core subjects, the vocational school students select a group of vocational subjects in accordance with the vocational course following. Vocational studies make up about 50 percent of the total course content in the secondary vocational school. Based in nature and technical subjects offered are less practical in nature. Technical studies make up only about 17 per cent of the total course content in the secondary technical school. At the post-secondary level there are six polytechnics with a student population of 15, 000 with about 12,000 students undergoing courses at the certificate level and 3,000 students at the diploma level. The objective of the polytechnics is to produce trained manpower at the semi-profesional level in various areas of engineering and commerce. At the certificate level about 80 percent of the students are following engineering courses. Female students make up about 25 percent of the total student population. Some examples of training government agencies are MARA- skills training institutes Ministry of Youth and Sport – Youth Training Centres and Ministry of Welfare Services- Training Centres. 1. 2 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM Statement of problems: 1. It shows that lately technical & vocational institution is out of date. 2. Students mainly are not aware of the avantages of technical & vocational institution. 1. 3 OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY This researh method to meet the following objectives: * To investigate the importances of technical & vocational institution. * To find out ways to improve tecnical & vocational education system. 1. 4 RESEARCH QUESTION The following research question is translated in order to meet the research objective. * Which is the importance of technical & vocational institution?. * What is the implication to students on the importance of having technical & vocational institution?. 1. 5 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY The significance of the study is to help students and teacher to indentify the importance of having technical & vocational institutons. Vocational and technical education is important because not everyone should be expected to take the path of going to a university and getting a university degree. Some people prefer to take a non-academic path because this is where their passion and interests lies. As such, having a good vocational and technical training and education program is important to ensure that students who are inclined towards these sectors have a respectable channel to pursue skills in this area. In Malaysia, making the pursuit of these skills is one of the ways to reduce school dropout rates and to increase the skills and earning power of those who do not lean towards the academic arena. Most students graduate without actually obtaining a real tertiary education, and the good students also suffer because the intellectual discourse that is supposed to happen in classes never materializes. This is a truly unfortunate side effect of the governments drive to produce more graduates. Enrollment criteria into universities get lowered every year because of the competition to get students at all costs, so quality suffers even more. 1. 6 LIMITATION OF THE STUDY This research covers only students from Universiti Industri Selangor ( UNISEL ) where the research was conducted to find out the results and point of views regarding the topic of research. Besides that, the research only covers students aged between 18 to 25 years old for oipinions and point of view on the matter of the topic. The research also covers only soe student from technical & vocatioanal school. 1. 7 CONCLUSION. CHAPTER 2: LITERATURE REVIEW 2. 1 INTRODUCTION Literature review comprises of related literature which is definition of topic, a general overview, advantages and also types of technical & vocational institution. In this chapter it shows the types of technical institution available. Besides that, the current importance is shown in the advantages as well as the implication of the topic. The variations of institution is also mentioned in this chapter to give clear view of the types of school available, thus emphasizing on the importance of this research. 2. 2 RELATED LITERATURE 2. 2. 1- Definition of technical and vocational institution. 2. 2. 2- Advantages of technical & vocatioanal institution. 2. 2. 3- Types of technical & vocational institution. 2. 2. 1 DEFINITION OF TECHNICAL & VOCATIONAL INSTITUTION Tecnique means a particular way of doing something, especially one in which you have to learn special skills. Besides that, it is the skill with which somebody is able to do something practical. ( Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary, 7 Ed, 2006). Institution on the hand is defined as a large important organization that has a particular purpose, for example, a university or school. In this case, institution is a place where it serves the need of educating technical skills as well as basic subjects to students. While cited in the web Wikipedia, vocational education or Vocational Education and Training (VET), also called Career and Technical Education (CTE), prepares learners for jobs that are based in manual or practical activities, traditionally non-academic and totally related to a specific trade, occupation or vocation, hence the term, in which the learner participates. It is sometimes referred to as technical education, as the learner directly develops expertise in a particular group of techniques or technology. 2. 2. 2 ADVANTAGES OF TECHNICAL & VOCATIONAL INSTITUTION In this chapter, researcher will be emphasizing in the advantages of technical & vocational institution. Nowadays, not everyone should be expected to take a path of going to University and getting a university degree. Therefore, having technical & vocational institution is to ensure that students who are inclined towrd these sector ( technical & vocational ) have a respectable channel to persue skills in this area which is to technical & vocational scholls as well as institution. Here, the technical and vocational schools offer the same core subjects as normal academic schools. These cover several core subjects for the languages, mathematics, and sciences but in addition the students are required to take selected technical and vocational subjects from a group of several different options. Secondary Technical Vocational School has 3 streams for selection which includes:Technical Stream, Vocational Stream and Skill Training Stream. Upon completing 2 years of studies at this level, the technical or vocational school students are required to sit for the common public examination called the Malaysia Certificate of Education or Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination similar to those academic school students from the secondary academic schools. However students from the Skill Training stream will sit for Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia* (Malaysian Skill Certificate) after which a government skill qualification is awarded for Level 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5. The higher level is Technical and Vocational Education at Post Secondary Level – This post-secondary level of technical education, which is under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Higher Education, comprises the following public institutions: Polytechnics, Community Colleges, Technical University Colleges and Public Universities. There are currently 19 polytechnics in the country conducting technical and vocational education offering 37 diploma and 26 certificate programmes covering study areas like engineering, commerce, food technology, marine, hospitality and Design. Community Colleges were first established by the government in the year 2000 with the primary objective of providing alternative skill training and education for secondary school leavers and those who have left the formal education system. In order to upgrade the image and professional level of technical and vocational education due to the increasing importance of employment in the industrial sectors, the government has, since 1999, set up 5 technical university colleges to focus on higher technical education offering engineering and related technical programmes designed to produce graduates with strong theoretical and cognitive knowledge and who possess high competency in application skills. They are:Kolej Universiti Sains dan Teknologi Malaysia ,Kolej Universiti Teknologi Tun Hussein Onn,Kolej Universiti Teknikal Kebangsaan Malaysia,Kolej Universiti Kejuruteraan Utara Malaysia and Kolej Universiti Kejuruteraan & Teknologi Malaysia. There are currently a total of 17 public universities in the country which is inclusive of the abovementioned 5 technical university colleges. Besides the 5 specialist technical universities colleges, many of the regular public universities, particularly the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia offer many technical and technological as well as engineering programmes leading to diploma and degree qualifications. In the meantime, as for technician/sub-professional and craft-level courses, the government training agencies which are involved in conducting training for student trainees include the Ministry of Human Resources. These agencies carry out the programmes through Industrial Training Institutes, MARA, under the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development, through the Skills Training Institutes, the Ministry of Youth & Sports through Youth Training Centres, and the Ministry of Welfare Services through its Training Centres. In addition, training is also conducted by the Ministry of Agriculture to produce Junior Agricultural Assistants at the Agricultural Institute.
