Leveraging IT for Business Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words

Utilizing IT for Business - Assignment Example The advantages of offshoring are various to the organization that takes part in it. These incorporate the decrease of the expense of working together. Organizations have had the option to decrease costs particularly on the compensations that it pays out just as different advantages. This is helpful for the association as it empowers the association to keep on working without superfluous cost added to it (Click and Duening 2005). This is on the grounds that a large portion of the redistributing goals like China, India and different nations offer less expensive work to these organizations that re-appropriate to them. Another advantage of redistributing is the upper hand that it provides for those organizations that utilization it. This is increased both in the neighborhood just as in the universal scene. This is because of the lower cost of business activities and the nearness to the accessible market for the completed products. Then again, the troubles of redistributing a business are likewise present and should be placed into thought. These incorporate the proportionality of the undertakings benefited and the supplier of the BPO to satisfy the commitments. As the size of the supplier goes up, so is the hazard. Simultaneously, there is the matter of trust between the supplier and beneficiary. The individuals or organizations that are the beneficiaries of the administrations that are being redistributed might be obscure. This implies it is a trying endeavor when an organization, for instance, far away, Australia chooses to endow its business to a generally secret gathering like in India. The final product might be a poor demonstration of the BPO which might be an incredible danger to the endurance of the organization. Another test to re-appropriating is that it has the ability to cause cerebrum channel. As indicated by associations inside Australia, the re-appropriating has driven various nationals from Australia to different nations looking for better terms of work (Switzer 2006). This is on the grounds that when organizations re-appropriate, they lessen the quantity of neighborhood occupations that they have. This is nature of joblessness that drives the activity searchers somewhere else to attempt to endure. Outsourcings will, in this manner, cost the nation a ton of its profoundly profitable labour.â

When a Cis Writer Does a Gender Reveal Correctly

When a Cis Writer Does a Gender Reveal Correctly Alex DiFrancesco is a writer of fiction, creative nonfiction, and journalism who has published work in Tin House, The Washington Post, Pacific Standard, and more. Their essay collection Psychopomps (Civil Coping Mechanisms Press) and their second novel All City (Seven Stories Press) are forthcoming in Spring of 2019. Their storytelling has been featured at The Fringe Festival, Life of the Law, The Queens Book Festival, and The Heart podcast. DiFrancesco is currently an MFA candidate at Cleveland State University.  @DiFantastico Indra Das has done what I never suspected any cis writer could. I should preface what I’m going to say by writing that it is not that I believe cis writers of fiction should not write trans charactersâ€"I don’t. I did once. I don’t mean to disagree with the many trans writers of fiction do believe this, but I believe personally that one of the most noble pursuits of fiction is to imagine lives completely unlike ours with depth and sensitivity, without ever letting our egos tell us that we could replace the voices that tell those lives for themselves. That said, most cis writers imagine trans lives for a very few standard and tropey reasons. They need to make their cis characters’ lives more complicated, and a trans life provides the drama for that. They want a symbol for the search for self, and a narrative focusing on transition provides that. They want to be edgy and current, and trans narratives are in the spotlight. What seldom, if ever, happens when a cis writer writes a trans character is that they want to present a fully fleshed ou t character whose existence is not a trial, or a joke, or a trick. That said, writing a gender reveal is often even more terrible ground for the worst of cis writers to tread. Though I’m sure many cis people think of Silence of the Lambs as the tour de force of Anthony Hopkins, and the horror film that contained two memorable villains, I don’t know any trans person who can talk or think about it without referencing the scene where Buffalo Bill dances in the mirror, dressed in women’s clothes, and we see a tucked penis and recall the gatekeeping doctors that wouldn’t let the character have genital reassignment surgery. Many trans people who grew up in the ‘80s like me recall the scene near the end of Sleepaway Camp where it’s revealed that the villain was a boy forced to live as a girl by a mentally ill auntâ€"a reveal that happens in the form of a raised knife and an exposed penis. The gender-reveal-as-shock trope is firmly entrenched is cis writers’ minds as a valuable and subversive plot device, with little thought to the larger-than -life terror it wreaks on the trans lives it steals from. Indian writer Indra Das was treading on delicate ground when he made a choice as a writer to have one of the main characters in his novel The Devourers make moves towards transitioning genders near the end of the novel. The werewolf novel set in both historic and present-day India deals largely with ideas of identity and true self. Most of the exploration of these themes comes from the werewolf characters, upon whose true bestial form (“second selves”) humans cannot lay eyes. Their human forms are amalgams of the humans whose lives and spirits they have consumed. This is, ostensibly, far more what the book is about than transness. The stories of the werewolves are translated from flesh scrolls handed off to a scholar named Alok. We know that Alok was once engaged, estranged from both a former fiancé and family, and of ambiguous sexuality. However, it is not until the last pages of the book that Alok buys a saree and learns to dress in it from internet instructions, and begins to grow their hair out. “I pass for someone who is not a man, who is not merely Alok. No, in those moments, I am not merely Alok. Not a second self, but a self, my self, one I’ve been afraid to let breathe for so long. One who drove my parents to remoteness. One who Shayani [Alok’s fiancé] couldn’t live with, breaking both our hearts. One I long to be in front of them all one day, their fear be damned.” Not a second self. Not a quest for self. Not a trick, not a foil. A gender reveal that does not aim to shock, but to deepen a sensitively explored and beautifully written themeâ€"those that live among us, be they human or inhuman, whose truth is too much for some eyes to fall on. What is more is that the transition is not something Alok struggles with through the novel, it is not a spectacle, it is not the focus. The focus is the translation of the scrolls recounting the lives of the werewolves that are handed to them by a mysterious stranger. The gender reveal is a natural end to a story it fits into perfectly. There is nothing exploitative; unlike many gender reveals, this one focuses on growing out hair, gently wrapping oneself in new clothesâ€"not body parts and shock. What’s more, is that when Alok comes out near the novel’s end, we have already met the character fully. We know all about Alok as a fleshed out human being. I spoke to Indra Das via email, who said that Alok developed as a natural part of his exploration of the themes of early drafts. “I asked a variety of questions of my older pieces: why so many men? why rape? why one female character who exists only to be violated by masculine-coded monsters so that they can grapple with the monstrosity of the mythology that is patriarchy? That the frame narrator would be a character who investigates their own transgression of the boundaries drawn around gender, sexuality and identity by the restrictive narratives of toxic patriarchy made eminent sense.” Das went on to say that while he does not identify as a trans or queer person, “I do strongly empathize with growing up in denial of my own sexuality (deeply internalized because of Indian/Bengali cultural shame around sex) and rejecting the norms and mores expected of gender conformity (I was always confounded by the things expected of me because I was a boy, always wondering why there was such an unpleasant divide socially encouraged between girls and boys). I definitely channeled my own denial and shame-ridden sexual development in writing Aloks denial.” This using of one’s own experience to channel the experiences of another is empathetic writing at its peak. By not viewing the character Alok as “other,” Das manages to avoid what are typically thought of as the traps of writing “the other” in fiction. Many of the trans writers I know are obsessed with other worlds, or with ghost stories or near futures that involve this world with much different rules. Samuel Delaney spoke to queerness’s release in the form of speculative fiction when he said that for those of us pushed out to the margins of this world, imagining other worlds is a vital exercise. This idea that is so gracefully explored in Das’s novel, this tender, beautiful, alliance between those of us who many feel do not exist and mythology is one of the ultimate things ever written by a cis writer about the trans experience. Biography of Ralph Waldo Emerson

Ralph Waldo Emerson was one of the most influential Americans of the 19th century. His writings played a major role in the development of American literature, and his thought impacted political leaders as well as countless ordinary people. Emerson, born into a family of ministers, became known as an unorthodox and controversiall thinker in the late 1830s. His writing and public persona would cast a long shadow over American letters, as he influenced such major American writers as Walt Whitman and Henry David Thoreau. Early Life of Ralph Waldo Emerson Ralph Waldo Emerson was born May 25, 1803. His father was a prominent Boston minister. And though his father died when Emerson was eight years old, Emersons family managed to send him to Boston Latin School and Harvard College. After graduating from Harvard he taught school with his older brother for a time, and eventually decided to become a Unitarian minister. He became the junior pastor at a noted Boston institution, Second Church. Personal Crisis Emerson’s personal life appeared promising, as he fell in love and married Ellen Tucker in 1829. His happiness was short-lived, however, as his young wife died less than two years later. Emerson was emotionally devastated. As his wife was from a wealthy family, Emerson received an inheritance which helped sustain him for the rest of his life. The death of his wife and his plunge into misery led Emerson to have severe doubts about his religious beliefs. He became increasingly disillusioned with the ministry over the next several years and he resigned from his position at the church. He spent most of 1833 touring Europe. In Britain Emerson met with prominent writers, including Thomas Carlyle, which whom he began a lifelong friendship. Emerson Began to Publish and Speak in Public After returning to America, Emerson began to express his changing ideas in written essays. His essay â€Å"Nature,† published in 1836, was noteworthy. It is often cited as the place where central ideas of Transcendentalism were expressed. In the late 1830s Emerson began to make a living as a public speaker. At that time in America, crowds would pay to hear people discuss current events or philosophical topics, and Emerson was soon a popular orator in New England. Over the course of his life his speaking fees would be a major portion of his income. The Transcendentalist Movement Because Emerson is so closely linked to the Transcendentalists, it is often believed that he was the founder of Transcendentalism. He was not, as other New England thinkers and writers actually came together, calling themselves Transcendentalists, in the years before he published â€Å"Nature.† Yet Emerson’s prominence, and his growing public profile, made him the most famous of the Transcendentalist writers. Emerson Broke with Tradition In 1837, a class at Harvard Divinity School invited Emerson to speak. He delivered an address titled â€Å"The American Scholar† which was well-received. It was hailed as â€Å"our intellectual Declaration of Independence† by Oliver Wendell Holmes, a student who would go on to be a prominent essayist. The following year the graduating class at the Divinity School invited Emerson to give the commencement address. Emerson, speaking to a fairly small group of people on July 15, 1838, ignited a huge controversy. He delivered an address advocating Transcendentalist ideas such as love of nature and self-reliance. The faculty and clergy considered Emerson’s address to be somewhat radical and a calculated insult. He was not invited back to speak at Harvard for decades. Emerson Was Known as The Sage of Concord Emerson married his second wife, Lidian, in 1835, and they settled in Concord, Massachusetts. In Concord Emerson found a peaceful place to live and write, and a literary community sprang up around him. Other writers associated with Concord in the 1840s included Nathaniel Hawthorne, Henry David Thoreau, and Margaret Fuller. Emerson was sometimes referred to in the newspapers as The Sage of Concord. Ralph Waldo Emerson Was a Literary Influence Emerson published his first book of essay in 1841, and published a second volume in 1844. He continued speaking far and wide, and it’s known that in 1842 he gave an address titled â€Å"The Poet† in New York City. One of the audience members was a young newspaper reporter, Walt Whitman. The future poet was greatly inspired by Emerson’s words. In 1855, when Whitman published his classic book Leaves of Grass, he sent a copy to Emerson, who responded with a warm letter praising Whitman’s poetry. This endorsement from Emerson helped launched Whitman’s career as a poet. Emerson also exerted a major influence over Henry David Thoreau, who was a young Harvard graduate and schoolteacher when Emerson met him in Concord. Emerson sometimes employed Thoreau as a handyman and gardener, and encouraged his young friend to write. Thoreau lived for two years in a cabin he built on a plot of land owned by Emerson, and wrote his classic book, Walden, based on the experience. Involvement in Social Causes Emerson was known for his lofty ideas, but he was also known to get involved in specific social causes. The most notable cause Emerson supported was the abolitionist movement. Emerson spoke out against slavery for years, and even helped runaway slaves get to Canada via the Underground Railroad. Emerson also praised John Brown, the fanatical abolitionist who many perceived as a violent madman. Though Emerson had been fairly apolitical, the conflict over slavery led him to the new Republican Party, and in the election of 1860 he voted for Abraham Lincoln. When Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation Emerson hailed it as a great day for the United States. Emerson was deeply affected by Lincolns assassination, and considered him a martyr. Emersons Later Years After the Civil War, Emerson continued to travel and give lectures based on his many essays. In California he befriended naturalist John Muir, whom he met in Yosemite Valley. But by the 1870s his health was beginning to fail. He died in Concord on April 27, 1882. He was nearly 79 years old. His death was front-page news. The New York Times published a lengthy obituary of Emerson on the front page. It is impossible to learn about American literature in the 19th century without encountering Ralph Waldo Emerson. His influence was profound, and his essays, especially classics such as Self-Reliance, are still read and discussed more than 160 years after their publication. Why You NEED an Outline for Essay

Why You NEED an Outline for Essay Now, we’re going to talk about the importance of creating an outline before you begin writing a paper. A number of students skip this step – mostly because they want to get the hard process of writing a rough draft out of the way. Don’t make this mistake. Once you start writing proper essay outlines, you’ll never go back. There are a variety of reasons why outlines are not only useful, but necessary in writing a great paper. First of all, an outline makes the writing process run smoothly. You already know what you want to say, and how you want to say it. You already know what points you want to hit. You already know where your important quotes go. Plenty of students simply build on their outline and call it a rough draft. Once you take away the numbers and letters, you’re left with a workable paper. This article is a part of Essay Survival Guide Want more essay writing help? Read Essay Writing eBook Series by ! Outlines also give you an idea of where to go next. Since you know what point you’re building toward, you can aim your writing in that direction. For example, if I want to use Barrack Obama to navigate toward a conversation about medical insurance, I’m going to cater my quotes and information to hit that point. I’m getting from Point A to Point B. This makes my writing clear and direct. I’m not scrambling to make a relevant point. In addition, for those of you who hate sitting down and writing for three or four hours, creating an outline breaks your writing up into bite-sized chunks. You can sit down, elaborate on a few important points, then take a break. When you come back, you’ll still be in the exact same place you were before. You won’t need to get your mind back in the game. Your writing will already be there. You won’t have to think of somewhere to go next. You’ve already done that. Your writing will be anything but sporadic, and you won’t be able to tell when you took a break or lost your sense of motivation. Finally, in the long run, having an outline saves you time. Your paper will be clean, precise, and straightforward. Your professor will appreciate the amount of thought you put into the structure of your essay. And, in addition to everything we just said, you won’t feel the constant pressure to come up with useful ideas. Everything will be done already. You just have to write. Writing is much easier when you know where you’re going with it Before we move on and talk about actually writing your rough draft, we’re going to give you a quick step-by-step guide to creating an outline. If you’ve chosen a topic (or, if you’re using the topic we provided), make an outline. You don’t have to write a rough draft or look for resources. Just see what you can create based on your subject. Chances are, you’ll find that writing an outline helps you formulate   and connect ideas and stay on track. 1. Organize your paper in a stepping-stone fashion with both numerals and letters from the alphabet. For example – A. Introduction 1. Hillary Clinton 2. Barrack Obama 3. John McCain B. Hillary Clinton 1. Health Care a) Proposals b) Experience 2. Prison Reform 3. Scandal 2. Once you’re organized, add a sentence or two for each subsection. What point are you trying to make in this section? What are you trying to say? 3. When you’re formatting your outline, only add a subsection if you have more than one thing to talk about. If you only need to make a singular point, don’t bother with a subsection. For example – A. Hillary Clinton 1. Prison Reform B. Barrack Obama This outline doesn’t make sense. If you want to talk about prison reform and Hillary Clinton, but the whole subject in the same line. There’s no sense in creating a subtopic when it’s actually the main essay topic. It should become – A. Hillary Clinton and Prison Reform B. Barrack Obama It just makes your outline neater and easier to understand. 4. Add to your outline as you come up with more ideas. 5. Add quotes from your research to your outline. If there’s something you want to quote in your paper, it should already be included in the outline. That way, you don’t have to worry about quote placement after you’ve written your essay. Again, outlines are a huge part of the essay writing  process. They help you stay organized and keep your thoughts collected. Getting into the habit of making a proper outline for your essays will ensure that you inch closer and closer to that â€Å"A† paper.

Some believe that the result facet isn’t a portion of public presentation. so for time’s interest. this essay will concentrate more on the action facet of public presentation. Within the action facet of public presentation. public presentation theory can be looked at in a battalion of ways. It can be broken dow n further into ; task public presentation vs. contextual public presentation. passage public presentation vs. care public presentation. and besides three positions on public presentation ( single difference. situational. and public presentation relation positions ) . But these footings are of no usage if the significance is non understood. Undertaking public presentation is the †¦individuals proficiency with which they perform activities that contribute to the organisations technical core’ ( Sonnentag A ; Frese. 2002. pg. 4 ) An illustration of undertaking public presentation is a group of production line workers. They are given a undertaking and expected to execute that undertaking. Task public presentation focuses on the touchable consequences and efficiency with which the group performs. Contextual public presentation †¦refers to activities which do non lend to the technical core’ but which support the organisational. societal. and psychological environment in which organisational ends are pursued. ( Sonnentag A ; Frese. 2002. pg. 4 ) An illustration of contextual public presentation would be the squad leader on a production line doing certain that the morale of the group is up. It focuses chiefly on personality and motive. Though there is some convergence with the two footings. as a high degree contextual public presentation frequently consequences in high degree undertaking public presentation. they differ in a few ways. With task public presentation. activities relevant to the occupation vary between occupations. whereas with contextual public presentation. those activities stay comparatively consistent. Besides. undertaking public presentation is more an ascribed function. whereas contextual public presentation is the functions that are optional to the group. there isn’t a checklist of specificities for the functions. Now that the different types of public presentations have been discussed. it is of import that we take into consideration how clip plays a big function in public presentation. Both passage public presentation and care public presentation demo how the group performs during a certain period of clip within a occupation. Passage public presentation is how the persons of a group act during the get downing phases of a new occupation. During early stages of skill acquisition. public presentation relies mostly on controlled processing’†¦ ( Sonnentag A ; Frese. 2001 ) Therefore significance that the group is dependent on the sum of tools and cognition that the occupation has available. As the group becomes more comfy with their milieus. they move into the care phase of their public presentation. Though non every member of the group moves at the same gait. finally they will all make the care phase. Sonnentag states that. Later in the skill acquisition procedure. public presentation mostly relies on automatic processing. procedural cognition. and psychomotor abilities. ( Sonnentag A ; Frese. 2001 ) Therefore the longer they perform the same occupation. the less they rely on the tools and cognition of the organisation. They have gained plenty of their ain penetration to execute the occupation without assistance. It about becomes automatic for the group or the single to execute their given undertaking. After reading about the key footings within Performance Theory. it is of import that the assorted positions on what affects the group’s public presentation be discussed. There are three chief positions that have emerged from Performance Theory ; single differences position. situational position. and public presentation ordinance position. The single differences perspective takes a difficult expression at the individual’s personal features and how they affect non merely their ain public presentation. but the public presentation of the group ; features such as mental ability and personality. This position shows us that because each person has separate experiences and has different associations with different significances. no two persons will execute any given undertaking the same manner. Our sensitivity guides our public presentation. which means the group must happen common land with which they can construct coherence. This position claims the group or single with more experience or higher cognitive ability. the higher the public presentation quality. ( Sonnentag A ; Frese. 2001 ) The 2nd point of view is the situational position. This perspective focal points on the importance of the factors that influence public presentation that are beyond the power of the group. For illustration if there is a hostile environment the group’s public presentation will endure ; whereas if the work environment is without ill will. the public presentation of the group won’t be affected. Situational position efforts to happen the factors that improve the group’s public presentation. and the factors that impede the group’s public presentation. ( Sonnentag A ; Frese. 2001 ) Last. the 3rd position is the public presentation ordinance position. The public presentation ordinance position takes a different expression at single public presentation and is less interested in individual or situational forecasters of public presentation. ( Sonnentag A ; Frese. 2001 ) This point of view looks at how factors such as ; rules/regulations. intent. and consequence affect group and single public presentation. This perspective expressions at public presentation from both a procedure and structural point of position. The procedure point of position focal points on the consecutive facets of an action. while the structural point of position refers to its hierarchal organisation. ( Sonnentag A ; Frese. 2001 ) For case the procedure point of view shows the importance of the planning and organisation facets of the public presentation. and the structural point of view shows the importance of one’s power in their given place or public presentation. After looking into the theory of public presentation. it is of import to understand more to the full by manner of illustration. In each Small Group category we see illustrations of public presentation theory at work. For case as we began the category. we were in the passage stage. This was evident when during the first category we weren’t given any direction as to how the category ought to develop. and we were shortly overwhelmed with confusion. This confusion came approximately because before so. we had been programmed to depend on the new information and tools given to us by those in authorization. which passage public presentation relies on. The consequence of non holding those tools pushed us to turn into the care side of public presentation before we had entree to our ain organic structure of cognition about the category. Another illustration of public presentation theory is illustrated in the public presentation of a group of histrions. Each dark they go on phase and must execute for a new audience. These situational factors affect how the group performs. On a more single graduated table. public presentation was affected by which household members were in the audience. The persons put more attempt into their public presentations when they knew that person of import was watching them. The whole group was affected when the situational factors changed from who is in the audience’ . to how many people are in the audience’ . Because the attending of one show was less than another. the group’s public presentation suffered because they lacked motive and feedback from the audience. Though the on-stage’ is what we think of when we hear the word performance’ . we must besides recognize that we besides perform throughout the twenty-four hours as we are exposed to a spectrum of different cases. Because we are societal existences we mold into when we find necessary at any given clip. Performing in mundane life involves people in a broad scope of activities from solo or confidant public presentations behind closed doors to little group activities to interacting as portion of a crowd. ’ ( Schechner. Performance Studies: An Introduction. 2002 ) In executing. we must understand why we do the things we do. and what affect they have. Besides we must farther delve into the person. situational and regulative factors that affect the quality with which groups and persons perform. So though we frequently don’t take the clip to see how we perform daily. we must retrieve that. the public presentation facet of ordinary behavior is less obvious. but non absent’ . ( Schechner. Performance Studies: An Introduction. 2002 ) November 26. 2012 Bibliography Campbell. J. . McIlroy. R. . Oppler. S. . A ; Sager. C. ( 1993 ) . A Theory of Performance. In E. Schmitt. The Legend of the Chevy Nova That Wouldnt Go

The Legend of the Chevy Nova That Wouldn't Go If youve ever taken a class in marketing, chances are youve heard how Chevrolet had problems selling the Chevy Nova automobile in Latin America. Since no va means it doesnt go in Spanish, the oft-repeated story goes, Latin American car buyers shunned the car, forcing Chevrolet to embarrassingly pull the car out of the market. But the Problem With the Story Is... Chevrolets woes are often cited as an example of how good intentions can go wrong when it comes to translation. There are literally thousands of references to the incident on the Internet, and the Nova example has been mentioned in textbooks and often comes up during presentations on cultural differences and advertising. But theres one major problem with the story: It never happened. As a matter of fact, Chevrolet did reasonably well with the Nova in Latin America, even exceeding its sales projections in Venezuela. The story of the Chevy Nova is a classic example of an urban legend, a story that is told and retold so often that it is believed to be true even though it isnt. Like most other urban legends, there is some element of truth in the story (no va indeed means it doesnt go), enough truth to keep the story alive. Like many urban legends, the story has the appeal of showing how the high and mighty can be humiliated by stupid mistakes. Even if you couldnt confirm or reject the story by looking into history, you might notice some problems with it if you understand Spanish. For starters, nova and no va dont sound alike and are unlikely to be confused, just as carpet and car pet are unlikely to be confused in English. Additionally, no va would be an awkward way in Spanish to describe a nonfunctioning car (no funciona, among others, would do better). Additionally, as in English, nova, when used in a brand name, can convey a sense of newness. Theres even a Mexican gasoline that goes by that brand name, so it seems unlikely such a name alone could doom a car. Other Spanish Mistranslation Legends GM, of course, isnt the only company to be cited as making advertising blunders in the Spanish language. But upon closer examination, many of these tales of mistranslation prove to be as unlikely  as the one involving GM. Here are some of those stories. The Tale  of the Vulgar Pen Story: Parker Pen intended to use the slogan it wont stain your pocket and embarrass you, to emphasize how its pens wouldnt leak, translating it as no manchar tu bolsillo, ni te embarazar. But embarazar  means to be pregnant rather than to embarrass. So the slogan was understood as it wont stain your pocket and get you pregnant. Comment: Anyone who learns much about Spanish learns quickly about such common mistakes as confusing embarazada (pregnant) for embarrassed. For a professional to make this translating mistake seems highly unlikely. Wrong Kind of Milk Story: A Spanish version of the Got Milk? campaign used  ¿Tienes leche?, which can be understood as Are you lactating? Comment: This might have happened, but no verification has been found. Many such promotional campaigns are locally run, making it more likely this understandable mistake could have been made. Wrong Kind of Loose Story: Coors translated the slogan turn it loose in a beer ad in such a way that it was understood as slang for suffer from diarrhea. Comment: Reports differ on whether Coors used the phrase suà ©ltalo con Coors (literally, let it go loose with Coors) or suà ©ltate con Coors (literally, set yourself free with Coors). The fact that accounts dont agree with each other make it seem unlikely that the mistake actually happened. No-Coffee Coffee Story: Nestlà © was unable to sell Nescafà © instant coffee in Latin America because the name is understood as No es cafà © or It isnt coffee. Comment: Unlike most of the other accounts, this story is demonstrably false. Nestlà © not only sells instant coffee under that name in Spain and Latin America, but it also operates coffee shops with that name. Also, while consonants are often softened in Spanish, vowels are usually distinct, so nes is unlikely to be confused for no es. Misplaced Affection Story: A slogan for Frank Perdue chicken, it takes a strong man to make a tender chicken, was translated as the equivalent of it takes a sexually aroused man to make a chicken affectionate. Comment: Like tender, tierno can mean either soft or affectionate. The accounts differ on the phrase used to translate a strong man. One account uses the phrase un tipo duro (literally, a hard chap), which seems extremely unlikely.

The Aspects of Terrorism Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

The Aspects of Terrorism - Essay Example Understanding these aspects of terrorism is a necessary first step in forming a counter terrorism strategy. The most robust terrorist organizations have their basis in religion, and have been able to recruit members from areas that have been the subject of occupation by a foreign power. On the individual level, feelings of nationalism and a right to a land are the strongest motivators for committing terrorist acts, while ideology has only a small part. Suicide bombers are arguably the most heavily committed individuals to the terrorist's cause. In a recent study at the University of Chicago, Pape (2003) found that, "a strategy of suicide terrorism is most likely to be used to achieve nationalist goals, such as gaining control of what the terrorists see as their national homeland territory and expelling foreign military forces from that territory" (7). This has been evidenced in the Palestinian crisis, Northern Ireland, and Basque separatists in Spain. "Even Al Qaeda's goals for 9/11 included ridding Saudi Arabia of U.S. troops" (Investigations). A right to a homeland far outweighs the importance of ideology. Ideology seldom enters the discussion on terrorism or the terrorist's demands.

Accepting Our Innate Good and Evil :: Philosophy Essays

Accepting Our Innate Good and Evil The evil of destruction is like a shadow cast by the good of creation. Nature gives and takes life. Even on the cellular level of the human body, the evil of decay and death exists side by side with the good of growth and health. For example, while the precise mechanism of cancer remains unknown, research has demonstrated that the malignant transformation of a cell is linked to cancer-causing genes called oncogenes. In normal cells, oncogenes are called proto-oncogenes, which promote cellular growth and are regulated by cellular genes called tumor-suppressor genes. Tumor suppressor genes, in other words, control growth-promoting genes, which could potentially turn malignant. ( ¡Ã‚ °Cancer: Causation. ¡Ã‚ ±  ¡Ã‚ °The Cause of Disease: Abnormal Growth of Cells. ¡Ã‚ ± Encyclopaedia Britannica, CD 1999). Thus, the potential for cancer not only exists in every cell of the body, but also supports the cell ¡Ãƒ ¤s growth and health. Concerning the nature of good and evil, Nichiren Daishonin states:  ¡Ã‚ °Good and evil have been inherent in life since time without beginning ¡Ã‚ The heart of the Lotus school is the doctrine of three thousand realms in a single moment of life, which reveals that both good and evil are inherent even in those at the highest stage of perfect enlightenment. The fundamental nature of enlightenment manifests itself as Brahma and Shakra, whereas the fundamental darkness manifests itself as the devil king of the sixth heaven ¡Ã‚ ± (The Writings of Nichiren Daishonin, p. 1113). The Daishonin explains that all people are endowed with supreme good and evil, as well as all the possible life states in between. We can be either as godly as  ¡Ã‚ °Brahma and Shakra ¡Ã‚ ± or as devilish as the  ¡Ã‚ °devil king. ¡Ã‚ ± Good and evil, in other words, are innate, inseparable aspects of life. This Buddhist concept is called the  ¡Ã‚ °oneness of good and evil. ¡Ã‚ ± This teaching, however, does not mean that evil is good, nor does it imply that the distinction between good and evil is irrelevant. Instead, it teaches us to perceive and triumph over evil inside ¡Ã‚ ªthereby conquering evil on the outside ¡Ã‚ ª through faith in the universal goodness of life. In the context of the Daishonin ¡Ãƒ ¤s teaching, good means the  ¡Ã‚ °fundamental nature of enlightenment, ¡Ã‚ ± or absolute freedom and happiness resulting from profound self-knowledge. Evil indicates the  ¡Ã‚ °fundamental darkness, ¡Ã‚ ± or life ¡Ãƒ ¤s innate delusion negating the potential of enlightenment and causing suffering for oneself and others. This inner darkness echoes with the despair that our lives are ugly and meaningless; it drives a wedge of fear that splits the hearts of people into  ¡Ã‚ °us ¡Ã‚ ± and  ¡Ã‚ °them.

IMImportant Scholars of Education: The Work of Paulo Freire and William W. Brickman

This article discusses the contributions of the amazing scholars Paul Freire and William W. B. Brickman and how their theories on education impacted their philosophies on improving education in their time. Friere believed the, â€Å"Banking† concept of education was the best theory to improve education in the poverty and oppressed areas(Flanagan, 2005) versus Brickman argued that the â€Å"comparative† approach on education gives students more versatility of educational learning(Silova and Brehm, 2010). These scholars developed these ideologies from their own personal background and obstacles they endured in their own economic environment and communities. Even though, Friere and Brickman theories on education were different, they both had a passion for the love and knowledge of education and took the time to research different educational strategies to make learning more effective and liberating to all students. Important Scholars of Education: The Work of Paulo Freire and William W. Brickman. Throughout the years, many scholars, politicians, scientist, and psychologist have performed many studies and have researched how to improve education. Education is a tool that we need to survive in this world (Oak, 2011). Education is a tool that helps promote wholeness and integration in the individual by focusing on the child’s personal growth and development to develop creative, confident and competent members of society who are able to contribute effectively to the life of their co mmunity (Oak, 2011). The question is can economic and social factors play an intricate part to the education success of young lives. Paulo Freire and William W. Brickman were extraordinary scholars whose social and economic status affected how they viewed education. What they encountered led them to research and explores different ideologies of improving education for all people. Paul Freire and William W. Brickman Contributions Paulo Freire was an extraordinary Brazilian educator whose revolutionary pedagogical theory influenced educational and social movements throughout the world and his personal philosophy influenced academic disciplines that include theology, sociology, anthropology, applied linguistics, pedagogy, and cultural studies (Flanagan, 2005). Freire believed that teachers played an intricate role to the welfare of the students’ education that students were considered banks and the teachers are constantly making deposits in the brains. Paulo Freire called this the â€Å"Banking Education â€Å"and Freire felt that banking education model was designed to improve critical thinking about situations (Flanagan, 2005). Educators role of teaching were to expand the minds of students by teaching them how to problem solve and this strategy would help students understand the world /society is not fixed and it potentially opening to transformation (Flanagan, 2005). William W. Brickman was amazing scholar whose focus on education was for the development in its history and international expansion. William Brickman goal was to strive to understand and not undermine others in expanding educational development. Brickman strove to expand educational concepts through extensive traveling to understand first hand social and linguistics issues (Silova and Brehm, 2010). He encouraged extensive international cooperation and working with specialist of a multitude of disciplines to expand on educational history so as to better provide the tools necessary for the teacher to engage in study. Through this, Brickman was known for his â€Å"study tours† which added extensive knowledge to the comparative field (Silova and Brehm, 2010). Challenges. The challenges of Paulo Freire were that his educational theory was based on a political oppressed people. The problem with this educational method is that it would not be applicable consistently in comparison to more developed countries. His oppressed and oppressor political view in terms to education would not carry the same weight in more democratic societies where education is not as politically dominated (Flanagan, 2005). However, the challenge of William W. Bickman entails he felt that the new found theories of science and statistics was starting to jeopardize his philosophy of comparative education (Silova and Brehm, 2010). His main concerned that these current scholars would focus on more practical educational theories versus his ideology of methodological development on comparative education. Similarities. To become great educators, one must possess the love and passion for education and finding different strategies to improve the education for students. Friere and Brickman both shared the common passion and love for improving education in their time. Their passion to improve education came from world events that change how they viewed the elements of education. Freire and his family encountered a financial crisis and Brickman developed comparative education after World War II. Their love of knowledge and education freedom made them pioneers of their time to embark on education success for all learners. Differences. As educators we all have different ideologies/methodologies of how we believe educated students show be illustrated. Freire‘s educational strategies/theories were based from the oppressed/poor (Flanagan, 2005). He devoted his life to develop effective strategies to better educate the oppressed/poor and make them more competitive in society. Brickman’s philosophy on education portrays a more international way of learning. He believed more of hands on learning approach, meaning students will become more successful learners from traveling the world, sharing/exchanging ideas and learning through comparative education (Silova and Brehm, 2010). Impact on Success Society and world issues play and important part how we view religion, politics, education, etc. We as people can endure obstacles in our lives that can change our perception on how we interpret/perceive set ideas/knowledge that is bestowed upon us. We do live in a democracy which allows us to have our own ideas and act upon those ideas. Freire’s upbringing was in a middle class environment until, his family experienced â€Å"The Great Depression†, leaving him in a world of unbelievable struggles and poverty (Flanagan, 2005). He experienced education from a poverty outlook and was dismayed by the education of poverty kids. Paulo Freire devoted his life of improving the education of the oppressed people and encouraging freedom of justice.

The Goals Of Making Life Worth Living - 1167 Words

In the society, there are some laurel people, there are some people having lifetime of hardships, but did not get anything substantial. There are also people living without wondering about the purpose of life, like the ship into the sea does not determine what direction it goes. Then there are people intent with very great thoughts but end up with very small business. Success or failure depends on so many reasons, which mainly features is purpose. Therefore Socrates has stated: â€Å"the unexamined life is not worth living†. In order to make one’s life worth living, this statement strongly addresses the idea that one must set up his goal to find the meaning and purpose of life. Socrates’ statement refers to the examining of all the work,†¦show more content†¦So far, there has been much research scientist, research, creativity in all fields to bring the best results, aim to improve people s lives. Purpose will open in the orientation and guidance of all human activities. There are purpose, people have the motivation to work, have fun and confidence in their work. However, if life has no purpose, people will become passive, weakness and useless, life lost all its meaning. What is trivial purpose? One who only thinks of personal interests, does well just to achieve results for individual identity, for their families without regard to the rights of those around the purpose was purported trivial, selfish. That way of life is not useful to the community. Besides, many people living with nice noble purpose. They are people who are useful to society, family and lifelong dedication to the people, for the country, ignoring yourself. They are willing to sacrifice all for the country become more prosperous, more happy people. Boosting their incentive to work selflessly if not aim beautiful and sublime? Thus, the purpose is noble torch directions, encouraging source of human strength concentrated willpower, courage and wisdom to make good all the work. Thanks to the purpose of great spiritual and tireless work that the scientists had created which works great for humanity. Another important aspect to Socrates quotes â€Å"the unexamined life is not worth living â€Å"was the allegory of the cave which was
